🎓 Educator Corner — Premium Resource

Purposeful. Reflective. Research-Informed.

A research-informed approach to child guidance and learning — created by an educator with 27+ years of experience as teacher, principal, superintendent, and college professor.

👩‍🏫 Former Teacher 🏫 Former Principal 🏛️ Former Superintendent 🎓 College Professor 📚 Published Author ❤️ Mom of 2

🔍 Elements of Critical Thought

Critical thinking is not a subject — it is a habit of mind that children develop through experience, guided questioning, and reflection. Every trip in this app is a real-world invitation for children to think deeply, challenge assumptions, and examine their world from multiple angles.

🔭

Multiple Perspectives

Children learn that problems, events, and experiences look different depending on who is observing. At the zoo: Who tells the story of the animal — the visitor, the zookeeper, or the animal itself?

📊

Examining Evidence & Data

What do we actually see, hear, and observe — versus what do we assume? Tidal pools, aquarium exhibits, and nature trails are living data sets waiting to be explored and questioned.

💬

Asking Powerful Questions

Great thinkers ask before they conclude. Teach children to pause and ask Why? What if? How do we know? What would happen if things were different? before jumping to answers.

🧠

Metacognition — Thinking About Thinking

The most powerful learners know how they think. After every experience, ask: What did I notice? What surprised me? What changed in my thinking? How did I figure that out?

⚖️

Evaluating Reasoning

Is the conclusion we reached logical? Do we have enough information? Children who can evaluate their own reasoning — and respectfully challenge others' — become confident, fair-minded problem solvers.

🔄

Reflection & Revision

Critical thinkers revisit their ideas. Did the experience confirm what I thought — or challenge it? Revision is not failure; it is the highest form of intellectual courage.

🗺️ Critical Thinking in Action — By Destination

🌳 Central Park
Why do animals behave differently in a city park than in the wild? Whose land was this before the park was built? How do we know?
🌊 Ocean City / Beach
What patterns do you notice in the waves? What evidence tells us the tide is changing? If you were a scientist, what would you measure today?
✊ Atlanta — Civil Rights
Why did some people fight for change while others resisted it? What would you have done? How do we decide what is fair? Who gets to tell this story?
🧱 Legoland
What caused the tower to fall? What would you change in your design? How is a Lego structure like a real building — and how is it different?
🇯🇲 Jamaica
How is life here similar to home — and how is it different? Why do different countries have different traditions? What can we learn from how other families live?

💡 Metacognitive Prompts to Use Before, During & After Every Trip

Before

"What do you already know about this place? What do you want to find out? What do you predict we'll see?"

During

"What do you notice? Does anything surprise you? What questions are popping up in your mind right now?"

After

"What changed in your thinking today? What do you still wonder about? What would you do differently next time?"

📐 Next Generation Learning Standards & Cross-Cutting Concepts

The Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and the broader Next Generation Learning Standards identify Cross-Cutting Concepts — the big ideas that bridge all disciplines and are especially powerful when experienced in the real world. These are not just science ideas. They are universal thinking tools that every child needs.

🔗 The 7 Cross-Cutting Concepts — Connected to Our Trips

🔁
Patterns
Recognizing patterns in the natural and social world. Wave cycles at the beach · Animal behavior at the zoo · Cultural patterns across Jamaica and Canada.
⚙️
Cause & Effect
Every action has a consequence. What happens to marine life when people litter on the beach? How did one person's courage change civil rights history in Atlanta?
📏
Scale, Proportion & Quantity
Size and scale matter in science — and in life. How big is the Georgia Aquarium compared to the ocean? How many bricks make one Legoland city? How many miles is our road trip?
🌐
Systems & System Models
Everything is part of a bigger system. How does a coral reef work as a system? How does a city like New York function as a system of people, nature, and rules?
Energy & Matter
How things move, change, and interact. What gives a wave its energy? How does a plane stay in the air? What happens to shells when the tide moves in and out?
🏗️
Structure & Function
How something is built determines what it can do. Why do sharks have that body shape? How is a Lego structure like a real building — and where does it fall short?
🔄
Stability & Change
What stays the same — and what changes over time? How has the Atlantic City boardwalk changed since 1870? How are Jamaica's reefs today different from 50 years ago?

🛠️ Tools Parents Should Know — Connected to the Standards

🔬
iNaturalist
Free app that identifies plants and animals from a photo. Connects directly to NGSS Patterns and biodiversity concepts. Perfect for nature trails, parks, and beaches.
🗺️
Google Earth & Maps
Children can trace routes, compare scales, and explore satellite views of every destination. Connects to Scale, Systems, and geography standards across all grade levels.
📓
Nature / Travel Journal
A blank notebook becomes a science journal, an art book, and a literacy tool all at once. Supports ELA standards, NGSS observation practices, and cross-cutting concept documentation.
📷
Photo Documentation
Children photograph what they notice — this is scientific observation. Asking "why did you take that picture?" builds metacognition and evidence-based reasoning tied to NGSS practices.
🎙️
Voice Memos / Video Reflections
Recording a short reflection after each experience builds oral language, self-assessment skills, and metacognitive habits — all supported by ELA speaking and listening standards.
📚
Destination Research Before the Trip
Let children research the destination beforehand using books or kid-safe web tools. Builds inquiry skills, background knowledge, and the habit of asking questions before experiencing — core to all learning standards.

🏗️ Project-Based Learning (PBL) — Connected to Every Trip

Project-Based Learning is grounded in the idea that children learn best when they are doing something meaningful with real-world relevance. Every destination in this app is a PBL launchpad. The research consistently shows: children who learn through hands-on, purposeful experiences retain more, think more deeply, and develop stronger problem-solving skills.

🌍

Real-World Relevance

Every PBL project begins with a real problem or question that actually matters. "How do we protect the sea creatures we saw today?" is not a worksheet — it is genuine inquiry that children carry home.

🤲

Hands-On Experience First

Children learn through doing — touching the touch tank, building the Lego tower, walking the Civil Rights museum. The hands-on experience is not supplementary; it is the primary teacher.

🔍

Sustained Inquiry

Good PBL does not end when the trip ends. The questions, observations, and ideas travel home. A beach trip becomes a week of inquiry about tides, ocean pollution, or marine adaptations.

📣

Voice & Choice

Children who feel ownership over their learning are more motivated and more creative. Let your child choose what to photograph, what to write about, or what question they want to investigate next.

🪞

Reflection as Learning

In PBL, reflection is built in — not added at the end. Story cards, video reflections, and the Memory Corner in this app ARE the reflection practice. They are not optional enrichment; they are the learning.

🌟

Authentic Audience

When children share what they learned — with a grandparent, a teacher, or in the Community section — it deepens understanding. Teaching others is the highest form of learning.

🎒 PBL Project Ideas — Take the Learning Home

🌊
Beach Trip → Design an ocean clean-up plan. Research one endangered sea creature. Write a persuasive letter to a marine conservation organization.
🦁
Zoo or Aquarium → Create an "Animal of the Month" research project. Design a habitat. Debate: should animals live in zoos or only in the wild?
Atlanta / Civil Rights → Research one Civil Rights leader. Create a timeline of events. Write from the perspective of someone living through that history.
🧱
Legoland / Engineering → Design and build a structure at home using household materials. Document the process: what failed, what worked, and why.
🇯🇲
Jamaica / International → Create a cultural comparison chart. Learn 10 Patois words. Cook a Jamaican dish together and write about the experience.

🧠 The CASEL Framework — How We Use It

Every story, experience, and activity in this app is intentionally aligned to the 5 CASEL Social Emotional Learning competencies. This is what separates us from every other family travel app.

💛
Self-Awareness
Naming feelings, recognizing strengths, understanding that nervousness is just bravery getting ready.
💙
Self-Management
Patience, impulse control, managing disappointment when the tower falls — and building again.
💚
Social Awareness
Empathy for animals, helping strangers, caring for the environment, understanding different cultures.
🧡
Relationship Skills
Communication, cooperation, asking for help, being part of a community — the zoo, the park, the world.
❤️
Responsible Decision-Making
Making thoughtful choices that help others feel safe and included. What do I do when I see someone who needs help?

🔬 Interdisciplinary Learning Connections

Travel is the richest classroom. Every destination connects to multiple school subjects — making the learning real, meaningful, and unforgettable.

📖

ELA / Literacy

Story cards, journal writing, vocabulary building, reading aloud together before and after every experience.

🔬

Science

Animal behavior, marine ecosystems, weather patterns, engineering (Legoland), tidal science, nature observation.

🌍

Social Studies

Maps, geography, community helpers, history of places, cultural awareness, citizenship, and world connections.

🎨

Arts

Drawing activity cards, creative expression, collage-making, music connections, visual storytelling through photos.

🔢

Math

Counting animals, measuring distances, time on trips, estimating, patterns in nature, building with Lego geometry.

💻

Technology / STEM

How airplanes fly, engineering at Legoland, video reflections, digital storytelling, research on destinations.

♿ Universal Design for Learning (UDL) — Every Child Can Access Every Adventure

Universal Design for Learning is a research-backed framework that ensures all children — regardless of learning differences, disabilities, or sensory needs — can fully access, engage with, and express their learning. UDL is not accommodation; it is design. When we design a trip thoughtfully, every child succeeds.

👁️

Multiple Means of
Representation

Present information in more than one way. Before a trip: read the story, watch a video, look at photos, talk about it. Children who struggle with text alone thrive when they can see, hear, and discuss.

📖 Stories · 🎬 Videos · 🗣️ Discussion · 🖼️ Images
🤲

Multiple Means of
Action & Expression

Let children show what they know in the way that works best for them. Draw it, say it, build it, photograph it, act it out. There is no single right way to demonstrate understanding.

🎨 Draw · 🎙️ Record · 📸 Photo · 🧱 Build · ✍️ Write
💡

Multiple Means of
Engagement

Different children are motivated by different things. Some need the social energy of a busy zoo. Others thrive in the quiet wonder of a nature trail. Match the experience to the child — and let them lead.

🌿 Quiet · 🦁 Exciting · 🤝 Social · 🔍 Independent

🗺️ UDL in Practice — Trip-by-Trip Planning Guide

🌳 Central Park — Sensory & Autism-Friendly UDL Tips
Representation: Show photos and a map of the park before you go. Read the story about the duck. Expression: Let your child draw what they see rather than write. Use a voice memo to capture observations. Engagement: Go early for quiet. Let your child choose the path. Duck feeding provides calming repetitive activity.
🌊 Beach — Sensory Processing & Mobility UDL Tips
Representation: Discuss the sounds, textures, and smells in advance. Watch a short video of ocean waves. Expression: Shell collecting, sandcastle building, and photography are all valid forms of scientific observation. Engagement: Morning visits are quieter. Mobility accommodations available at Avalon, NJ and Ocean City boardwalk.
✈️ First Flight — Anxiety & Sensory UDL Tips
Representation: Read the airplane story the night before. Walk through the airport process step-by-step in conversation. Show photos of the plane interior. Expression: Let your child describe feelings using pictures or emoji rather than words. Engagement: Noise-canceling headphones, a sensory kit, and window seat reduce overwhelm significantly.
🏛️ Museum / Cultural Sites — Vision & Hearing UDL Tips
Representation: Most major museums have tactile exhibits, audio descriptions, and large-print guides — call ahead to request. Expression: Touching, feeling textures, and listening to audio guides are all valid engagement. Engagement: Self-guided tours allow families to go at their own pace without performance pressure.

📋 What Parents of Children with Special Needs Should Ask Before Every Trip

Does this venue have ADA-accessible pathways, restrooms, and seating?
🧠 Are sensory-friendly hours or quiet times available?
🎧 Will noise levels be manageable? Can we bring headphones?
🗺️ Can I get a map or layout in advance to prepare my child?
🏃 Are there easy exits if my child needs a break or quiet space?
🎫 Does this venue offer accessibility passes or accommodations?
🌤️ Is there outdoor space for regulation breaks if needed?
💬 How can I prepare my child with a social story or walk-through beforehand?

🌐 Educator & Family Resource Hub

Every framework, strategy, and philosophy in this Educator Corner is grounded in peer-reviewed research and proven educational practice. Explore these resources with your children — and alongside your own learning as a parent.

🧠
Psychology & Child Development
American Psychological Association

The APA provides research-backed guidance on child development, emotional well-being, learning, and family resilience. Their family-focused resources are invaluable for understanding how children process new experiences, overcome fear, and build confidence through adventure.

Child Development Emotional Resilience Learning & Memory Family Well-Being
💡 Look for: "Talking with children about fear," "Raising resilient kids," and their child development topic page.

Social Emotional Learning
CASEL — Collaborative for SEL

CASEL is the global leader in Social Emotional Learning research and practice. Their framework — the same one powering every story and activity in this app — gives families the language and tools to raise children who are self-aware, empathetic, and emotionally intelligent. The website includes free family guides, research summaries, and grade-by-grade competency maps.

SEL Framework Family Resources Research Base 5 Competencies
💡 Look for: The "Family Guides" section and "What is SEL?" — perfect starting points for parents new to the framework.

Universal Design for Learning
CAST — UDL Guidelines

CAST developed the Universal Design for Learning framework that ensures every child — regardless of learning differences, disabilities, or sensory needs — can access rich learning experiences. Their website includes the full UDL Guidelines, implementation tools, and resources specifically designed for families navigating learning differences alongside everyday life and adventure.

UDL Guidelines Learning Differences Inclusion Accessibility
💡 Look for: "UDL in Practice" and the three UDL principles — Representation, Action & Expression, and Engagement — explained in plain family-friendly language.

📌
A Note from Dr. Wilson

These three organizations represent the research backbone of everything I believe about children, learning, and family. The APA tells us how children develop. CASEL tells us what children need emotionally. CAST tells us how to design experiences so every child can fully participate. Together, they are the foundation of this app — and of every intentional adventure we take.

🗺️ Explore Every Destination — Open in Google Maps

Before every trip, explore the destination together on Google Maps. Zooming in, tracing routes, and identifying landmarks is itself a powerful geography and critical thinking lesson. Tap any destination below to open it directly in Google Maps.

🔍 Tip: Before every trip, zoom into the destination with your child. Trace the route. Find landmarks. Ask: "What do you notice? What do you wonder?" — that is geography, critical thinking, and excitement all at once.

🤝 My Disciplinary Approach

Rooted in relationship, responsibility, and reflection — helping children make better choices and grow into confident, kind, capable people.

1

🤝 Build Relationships First

Kids do better when they feel seen, heard, and valued. Connection before correction — always. When a child feels safe with you, they're open to learning from you. Every adventure is a relationship-building opportunity.

Parent language: "I see you. I hear you. I'm here with you no matter what."
2

📖 Teach & Model Together

Children learn what they see far more than what they hear. When we model curiosity on a nature trail, patience at the ocean, or kindness to a stranger at the zoo — we're teaching the most important lessons.

Parent language: "Watch me first. Now let's try it together. Now you try."
3

🧭 Guide & Redirect Calmly

Name the feeling first. "I see you're frustrated — that's okay." Once a child feels heard, they're ready to redirect. Calm responses teach self-regulation more powerfully than any lecture ever could.

Parent language: "I see you're [feeling]. Take a breath with me. What do we do when we feel this way?"
4

💫 Reflect & Restore

After hard moments, reflection builds the emotional intelligence that lasts a lifetime. "What happened? How did it feel? What would you do differently?" These three questions have transformed classrooms — and families.

Parent language: "What happened? How did that feel for everyone? What can we do to make it right?"
5

⭐ Celebrate Growth Always

When children hear what they're doing right, they do more of it. Specific, meaningful praise — not just "good job" — builds children who believe in their own capacity to grow.

Parent language: "I noticed how you [specific behavior]. That showed real [courage/kindness/patience]. I am proud of your growth."

I really appreciate having a resource that highlights all the amazing places I can explore with my young children. The title threw me off at first — I'm a dad — but honestly, it doesn't matter at all. The content speaks for itself. This is a genuinely unique and innovative idea, and I'm excited to see where it goes. Just signed up for premium and looking forward to diving in! Will tell my friends and colleagues.

It was such a pleasure meeting you and your children yesterday at the Penn Relays! I'm so glad you were able to bring them — what an experience. They were absolutely adorable in their Jamaica t-shirts, proudly repping the flag and cheering on both the American and Jamaican teams. That kind of memory lasts a lifetime. Go Dr. Wilson! Keep up the incredible work — I'll definitely be spreading the word to my friends and I look forward to watching your continued success!

Dr. Wilson

Educator · Author · Adventurer · Mommy

🎓 Ed.D. University of Pennsylvania 📚 Published Author ✈️ International Travel with Children Since 2018

"I began traveling internationally with my children in 2018 — and it changed everything. Every trip was a classroom. Every destination was a story waiting to be told. This app is the intersection of everything I love — travel, learning, and the irreplaceable bond between a mother and her children."

27+ Years of Excellence

A Career Built on Learning, Leading & Loving Children

🍎
1999 — Gifted & Talented Teacher

Began her education career teaching gifted and talented students, discovering early that learning happens best when it is joyful, challenging, and connected to the real world. The classroom was never just four walls.

📖
Literacy Coach

Deepened her commitment to the power of stories and reading. Worked alongside teachers to transform literacy instruction — believing that every child who learns to love reading gains a lifelong superpower. This is the foundation of every story in this app.

🏫
2006 — Principal

Became a school principal, leading a community of learners and shaping school culture. Implemented restorative practices, SEL frameworks, and relationship-first leadership — the same principles you'll find in the Educator Corner of this app.

🏛️
Superintendent of Schools

Led a large school district as Superintendent — one of the most senior leadership roles in American education. Responsible for curriculum, instruction, school culture, and the learning outcomes of thousands of children. Her CASEL framework integration happened at scale here.

🎓
Ed.D. — University of Pennsylvania

Earned her Doctorate in Education from the University of Pennsylvania — one of the nation's most prestigious research universities. Her academic background spans psychology, educational administration, and teaching. Penn's rigorous approach to evidence-based practice shapes everything in this platform.

📚
College Professor & Published Author

Now shapes the next generation of educators as a college professor, while writing original children's stories that weave together travel, social-emotional learning, and the kind of wisdom only a career in classrooms can produce. Every story in this app comes from the heart of an author who has also been a teacher, principal, and parent.

🎤
National Conference Presenter & Research Contributor

A nationally recognized voice in educational leadership, Dr. Wilson has presented at conferences across the country and contributed to cutting-edge research books and journals in the field of school leadership, instructional excellence, and child development. She currently trains aspiring school leaders for the nation's largest school district — shaping the next generation of principals who will serve millions of children.

✈️
2018 — International Adventures Begin

In 2018, Dr. Wilson took her daughter on their first international trip — the beginning of a travel chapter that would become the heart of this app. Since then, her children have traveled to Jamaica five times, completed three cruises, taken countless road trips across the Eastern Seaboard, and ventured to Canada. Every destination became a story, a lesson, and a lifelong memory. Central Park, the Bronx Zoo, Ocean City, Legoland — these are not just recommendations. They are places where a mother and her children discovered the world together.

Why I Built This App

After 27 years in education — as a teacher, literacy coach, principal, superintendent, and now professor — I realized that the most powerful learning I ever witnessed happened outside the classroom. When I started traveling internationally with my children in 2018 — Jamaica, cruises, Canada, road trips across the Eastern Seaboard — I wasn't just making memories. I was watching them discover the world, develop empathy, build courage, and grow into curious, confident little humans.

There was no app that combined what I know as an educator with what I live as a mother. No platform that turned travel into storytelling, SEL, and intentional memory-making. So I built one. This app is the intersection of everything I love — and everything children need.

The Trips That Built This App

Every destination in Mommy & Me Making Memories comes from real experience. These are the journeys that shaped the stories, the SEL connections, and the memory-making philosophy behind this platform.

Dominican Republic — First Visit 2026

First Foreign-Language Country
🏙️
Santo Domingo Bay Resort & Convention Center
📍 Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic · January 2026
⭐⭐⭐
Capital City Experience
🤔 Newly remodeled in January 2026 with beautiful amenities — but power outages throughout the night and limited food options held this one back. The people, especially Aldaberto at the beach bar, were the real highlight.
🛁 Lovely rainfall shower — beautiful room amenities after the remodel
♾️ Children loved the infinity pool — calm and beautiful
🏖️ Beach was calm, relaxing, and easy with young children
🌿 Grounds were well kept and pleasant to walk
⭐ Aldaberto at the beach bar — kept the children and me hydrated with mocktails all day. Absolutely the best!
⚡ Power kept going off throughout the night — very disruptive
🍽️ Food options were very limited
⏳ Long wait at check-in — though the children were blissfully unbothered
💭 Not a true four-star experience — needs improvements before I would return

Dr. Wilson's Note: I stayed here years ago when it was a different hotel. The remodel brought beautiful updates but the fundamentals need work. I chose this property to let my children experience Santo Domingo, the capital city — that goal was accomplished. I would not stay again unless they addressed the power and food concerns.

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana

Dr. Wilson's Pick ⭐
🤩 Wow, wow, and wow. This massive, incredible property is one of my absolute favorites for traveling with children. The kids waterpark, Roxity Kids Club, the swim-up bar with ice cream, and the room setup made this trip extraordinary.
🛏️ Two King beds, outside jacuzzi soak tub, huge shower — stunning room (Building 5B, attached to lobby)
🎮 Keypad in the room to order room service and control everything — children loved it
💦 Kids waterpark was THE highlight — swim-up bar with drinks and ice cream, who could beat that!
🏊 So many pool options — I had an entire pool almost completely to myself one day
🎪 Roxity Kids Club — indoor trampoline, loads of activities, planned events at the kids pool, snack area just for kids
🏖️ Ample beach chairs — never felt overcrowded
🤝 Staff was incredibly friendly — did not try to upsell like other resorts
🍜 Zen hibachi restaurant was wonderful for the children
🥭 Our driver stopped roadside to buy mangoes to bring home — that is Dominican hospitality
✈️ United Airlines offers nonstop service from the tri-state area — amazing flight crew and pilot
🍽️ Overall resort food was okay — better to eat at the food trucks along the property
🚂 Golf trolley can have a wait — be prepared to get your steps in on this massive property
⏳ Check-in had a bit of a wait — but this is the Caribbean, they are not in a rush like us from up north 😄
⚠️ Roxity Kids Club was closed for a private event one day with no advance notice
📋 Bring passports on Day 1 to register children for kids club — I didn't know and had to go back to the room

Dr. Wilson's Tips: Purchase grippy socks upstairs ($4 each — you'll need them for the slides). Babysitting available up to $20/hour — book 24 hours ahead or email in advance. Kids club only provides water due to allergy policies. Not a complete five stars but absolutely one of my favorites for traveling with children.

Beautiful kid-friendly location with a gorgeous pool and beach. Lovely property overall.
🏊 Pool is beautiful and very kid-friendly
🏖️ Stunning beach — pristine and easy for families
🌿 Beautiful grounds and well-maintained property
🍽️ Food is okay — gets the job done but not exceptional
💡 Mom Tip: A wonderful first Jamaica experience. Great for families with younger children because of how easy and relaxed the pool and beach area is. Food won't blow you away, but the setting absolutely will.
👑
Royalton Negril — Swim-Out Suite
📍 Negril, Jamaica · August 2019
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Top Pick ⭐
🌟 Amazing. The swim-out suite was extraordinary and the butler service made everything effortless.
🍽️ Food was exceptional — one of the best resort dining experiences
🛎️ Butler service is worth every penny — especially solo with kids
🏊 Swim-out suite is a dream — step right from your room into the pool
🌊 Negril 7-Mile Beach — calm water, perfect for children
💡 Mom Tip: If you can swing the swim-out suite with butler service, do it. As a solo traveling mom, having that extra support is a game-changer. The food here was so good we came back. Worth every dollar.

👍 Still a beautiful property and worth the visit. Came back because we loved it — food was more average this time.
🌴 Property and beach remain gorgeous
🏊 Pool and grounds still excellent
🍽️ Food was okay this time — a step down from our 2019 experience
💡 Mom Tip: Still a solid choice — the location and property are consistently beautiful. The food experience may vary visit to visit.

Family Favorite 💕
🌟 Exceptional all around — and the kids club with Marjorie made this trip truly unforgettable.
🍽️ Food was great — consistent and delicious throughout the stay
🏖️ Beach was perfect — calm, beautiful, exactly what we needed
😊 Staff was exceptionally friendly and warm
🛏️ Rooms with bunk beds and ocean view — the kids were obsessed
🎠 Kids Club — the BEST staff. Shoutout to Marjorie — an absolute gem!
🧒 Kids club used every single day — picked up for lunchtime with mom
🎉 Many family-friendly activities offered throughout the day
✨ Luminous Lagoon in Falmouth — a magical bioluminescent night swim! Short taxi ride from the resort
💡 Mom Tip: This is the one. If you are traveling solo with children, the kids club here is everything — they offered daily activities and we picked the children up for lunch together every day. The bunk bed ocean view rooms felt designed for families like ours. Marjorie and the kids club team made my children feel so loved and safe. I cannot recommend this property enough. One experience not to miss from this resort: the Luminous Lagoon in Falmouth — a short taxi ride away. You go out on the water at night to swim in bioluminescent water that glows around you. There is live music, food, and drinks available. The younger children were a little apprehensive, but my teenage niece absolutely loved it. Definitely something worth exploring — a truly unique and memorable experience.

Pegasus Hotel Kingston
📍 Downtown Kingston, Jamaica · July 2023
⭐⭐⭐⭐
City Experience
A great city hotel experience — lovely pool, pleasant rooms, and fantastic access to Kingston's dining scene.
🏊 Lovely pool — a real highlight of the property
😊 Staff was nice and accommodating
🛏️ Rooms were pleasant and comfortable
🍴 Lots of great eateries in downtown Kingston — explore the city!
⚠️ Pool note: Children should know how to swim — the pool is deeper
💡 Mom Tip: Kingston is a different Jamaica experience — more cultural, more city, less beach resort. If you want your children to truly experience Jamaican life and culture rather than just resort life, stay here. The dining scene in downtown Kingston is wonderful and authentic.
🔁
Pegasus Hotel Kingston — Return Visit
📍 Downtown Kingston, Jamaica · October 2025

👍 Consistent experience — same nice pool, and the food by the bar was the standout this visit.
🏊 Same nice pool — reliable and enjoyable
🍹 Food by the bar was the best — highly recommend!
🗺️ Nice attractions nearby in Kingston
😊 Overall good experience — consistent quality
💡 Mom Tip: Sit by the bar for food — it was our favorite dining spot on this visit. Kingston continues to be a wonderful city experience. Great if you have been to the resort scene and want something more authentic.

Embassy Suites by Hilton Niagara Falls
📍 Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Top Pick ⭐
🌟 Amazing in every way. Waking up to breathtaking views of Niagara Falls from the Canadian side — money absolutely well spent.
🌊 Best views — wake up to Niagara Falls right outside your window
⛳ Walking distance to mini-golf — great for the children
🇨🇦 Canadian side of the Falls is stunning — worth the trip specifically for this view
💰 Money well spent — the view alone justifies the price
🚶 Walkable location — easy to get around without a car
💡 Mom Tip: Get a room facing the Falls — do not settle for any other view. Waking up and opening the curtains to see Niagara Falls is a moment your children will talk about forever. The Canadian side offers the best panoramic view of the Falls. Worth every penny and then some.

🌟 A true Ocean City gem — spacious rooms, stunning ocean views, impeccable hospitality, and everything you need within walking distance. We loved it so much we came back!
🌊 Ocean views from most rooms — wake up to the Atlantic every morning
☕ Afternoon tea with the best scones outside of London — an absolute must!
🏨 Spacious rooms — plenty of room for families, no feeling cramped
💯 Hotel hospitality is a 10 out of 10 — staff goes above and beyond
🎮 Arcades within walking distance — children are thrilled
🌊 Beach boardwalk right there — stroll, ride, and explore easily
🦀 Crab buffets within walking distance — if you love seafood, this is heaven!
🚶 Walkable neighborhood — beach, food, fun all steps away
⛴️ Ferry from Cape May NJ to Lewes DE — a wonderful scenic adventure
🚙 Drive your car right onto the ferry — easy and very reasonably priced
💡 Mom Tip — The ROUTE and the hotel are both 10 out of 10: Do not just drive straight to Ocean City. Take the Garden State Parkway south to Cape May, NJ — a gorgeous scenic drive. Then take the ferry from Cape May to Lewes, Delaware. You drive your car right onto the ferry — quick, scenic, and the children absolutely love it. From Lewes, drive right into Ocean City and check in to the Dunes Manor. Request an ocean view room — most rooms have the view but it is worth confirming. The hospitality here is truly exceptional — the staff treats you like family. Order the afternoon tea without question. The scones are the best outside of London. And if your family enjoys seafood, the crab buffets within walking distance are a genuine Maryland experience you will not forget.

Our Cruises — 8 Total, 3 with the Children

Official Cruisers 🌊
💡 Why cruises work for families: Kids clubs like Camp Carnival and Adventure Ocean offer family-themed events and endless activities. We ate breakfast and dinner together most days — and the kids still preferred going back to the kids club! Great for couples, single parents, and families of all sizes. My children are now official cruisers. 🚢

Carnival Glory
📍 Port Canaveral (Orlando) · August 2025 · Ages 6 & 7
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Top Pick ⭐
🌟 Liked it — great experience for families. Celebration Key was one of the best experiences ever.
🎠 Camp Carnival kids club was exceptional — free until late hours
📱 Younger kids given a mobile phone onboard for emergencies — brilliant!
🛳️ Balcony cabin, Deck 8 — return guest perks applied
🏝️ Celebration Key — one of the best experiences ever!
🌊 Massive lagoon and water slides at Celebration Key — kids loved it
🎮 Full day at Kidverse waiting for evening flight home — amazing time
🍽️ Celebration Key food requires payment — not fully all-inclusive, but worth it
💡 Mom Tips: Sign up for the Carnival loyalty club — return guests are treated differently and perks like cabin upgrades matter. Celebration Key is located on the other side of Grand Bahama Island; Freeport is just an excursion ride away if you want to explore. The kids club giving younger children their own onboard mobile phone for emergencies is one of the smartest things a cruise line has done for solo traveling parents.

LEGOLAND New York Resort

Birthday Tradition 🎂
🧱
LEGOLAND New York Resort
📍 Goshen, NY (~2 hours from NYC) · Visited 3 times: November (twice) & July
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Birthday Tradition 🎂
🌟 My son has wanted to go for his birthday every year — so we have been three times! The summer visit was excellent; November is magical but bundle up.
❄️ NOVEMBER VISITS
Very cold — dress warm in layers! Beautiful holiday decorations throughout the park. Limited rides open but still very enjoyable. The festive atmosphere makes it special.
☀️ SUMMER VISIT
Excellent experience all around. Water activities were a major highlight for the children. All rides and attractions fully open. Best season for a first visit.
🎵 Music plays in the hotel elevators — fun little touch that kids love
🎉 Lobby activities: storytelling and dance parties — keeps kids entertained
🚶 Easy walk from hotel directly to the amusement park
🏊 Pool was the standout hotel feature — very kid-friendly
🔥 Fire pit at night — lovely for families to wind down after a big day
🍳 Breakfast included with lots of kid-friendly options
🍔 Lobby bar food decent but can be expensive — plan accordingly
💡 Mom Tip — Make It a Birthday Tradition: My son started requesting LEGOLAND for his birthday and we made it a tradition. There is something magical about a child having a place they ask to return to year after year — that is memory-making at its finest. For first-timers: visit in summer when everything is open and the water activities are running. If you visit in November, layer up and enjoy the holiday magic — the decorations are genuinely beautiful even if fewer rides are available. Stay onsite — the walk to the park and the pool make it completely worth it.

♨️ Hot tub included — a welcome treat after exploring all day
🏖️ Right on the boardwalk — iconic Atlantic City experience
🛺 Golf cart/trolley to nearby attractions — easy and fun transport
🤿 Island Waterpark at Showboat nearby — use Groupon for great deals!
🍔 Dinner Highlight: Wahlburgers on the boardwalk — a great vibe and a delicious end to a perfect day!
💡 Mom Tip — Atlantic City is seriously underrated for families: Do not sleep on Atlantic City as a family destination. The Ocean Casino Resort is stunning and the boardwalk access makes it so easy to fill a full day. Hit the Island Waterpark at Showboat (use Groupon — you will save significantly), walk the iconic boardwalk, end the day at Wahlburgers, and watch the ocean from your room. One night is genuinely enough to have the best time. Pack it all in.

B Ocean Resort Fort Lauderdale
📍 Fort Lauderdale Beach, Florida
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Unique Experience
🌟 Truly unique — live mermaid performers in an aquarium-style pool in the main lobby. Children were absolutely mesmerized.
🧜‍♀️ Mermaid aquarium experience — live performers, children are enchanted
🌊 Balcony rooms with ocean view — stunning
🍽️ Good food on site
🏖️ Great beachfront pool and bar — staff attentive and helpful
💰 Can be pricey — plan your budget accordingly
🚗 Parking is expensive — factor this into your costs
🍴 Restaurants nearby via Uber — easy to get around
💡 Mom Tip: Request a balcony room with ocean view — worth it completely. The mermaid experience in the lobby is something children talk about long after the trip ends. Uber to restaurants rather than relying on in-hotel dining to manage costs. Parking fees add up fast — factor that in when comparing hotel prices.
